Reiki

Reiki (ray-key) is the Japanese word meaning universal life energy.
With gentle placement of hands on or just above the body, Reiki engages the energy that current research now suggests flows within and beyond our physical bodies. It can soothe interruptions to this flow and assist in bringing your mind and body back to balance. Many people fall asleep, others can feel warmth and comfort.  With gentle placement of hands, the Reiki professional engages this energy to soothe interruptions of its flow and bring the emotions, body, spirit and mind back into balance. Reiki promotes well-being through stress reduction & relaxation.

Reiki can be received in any setting, medical or otherwise and complements any other therapy. It is also being used more widely in hospitals for pain management after surgery as well as for discomforts with chemotherapy. It is a welcome addition in hospice care, easing pain and anxiety for patients and families.

Sessions are given with client clothed and can be offered through casts and bandages.  When a Reiki practitioner places his/her hands on an area of their own or another person’s clothed body, Reiki flows through the practitioner into the person receiving the treatment. This flow may be felt as any type of sensation—heat, cold, vibration, tingling, unusual heaviness, or sometimes as no sensation at all. A full Reiki treatment takes about 60 to 90 minutes.
