Reiki (ray-key) is the Japanese word meaning universal life energy. With the practitioner's hands placed gently on or above the client's body, Reiki flows through practitioner to client, engaging this energy that current research now suggests flows within and around our physical bodies. It can soothe interruptions to this flow and assist in bringing the body, mind and emotions back to balance. Reiki promotes well-being through stress reduction & relaxation. Reiki can be received in any setting, medical or otherwise and compliments any other therapy.

It is also being used more widely in hospitals for pain management after surgery as well as for discomforts with chemotherapy. It is a welcome addition in hospice care, easing pain and anxiety for patients and families. Reiki is given with client fully clothed and can be offered through casts or bandages. A client may feel sensations such as warmth, coolness, tingling or sometimes no sensation at all. A most common experience is that of deep relaxation. Some clients fall asleep at times.

A first session can be scheduled for 30 minutes to experience a sampling of Reiki. 60 or 90 minute sessions are most commonly scheduled. Reiki and Reflexology can be combined in a session.

Jade River is fortunate to have Karen Martin as a Reflexologist and Reiki Practitioner.
